In Vitro Antioxidant and Antidiabetic Activities of Selected Nigerian Medicinal Plants.

Abstract:Diabetes prevalence is rapidly rising, with over 537 million adults affected. Oxidative stress is linked to the pathogenesis of diabetes. Medicinal plants are sources of bioactive compounds for diabetes treatment, offering safer alternatives to synthetic drugs, which often have side effects. This study explores the in vitro antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of selected Nigerian medicinal plants traditionally used in diabetes management. Leaves of Entandrophragma utile, Milicia excelsa, Lecaniodiscus cupanioides, Baphia nitida, Sansevieria liberica, Napoleonaea vogelii, Greenwayodendron suaveolens, Syzygium guineense, Colocasia esculenta and Bryophyllum pinnatum were collected and analysed.
