Commercialising Cassava Starch Processing: Welfare Implications for Small-Scale

Abstract:Interventions aimed at enhancing cassava starch processing have often overlooked its commercialisation, a critical factor for improving the welfare of processors. Thus, this study examined the welfare impact of commercialisation among cassava starch processors in Oyo State, Nigeria, drawing on data from 163 small-scale processors. Analytical methods include descriptive statistics, household commercialisation index, Tobit model, Foster-Greer-Thorbeck (FGT) Model, and Propensity Score Matching (PSM). Most processors (82.2%) were female, averaging 53 years old. Approximately 75% of the processors used traditional cassava starch processing methods.
